Hoo nelly. Just did way too much damage over at Celtic Cove, buying so much yummy yummy Noro yarn. 9 skeins of Silk Garden and an awe inspiring 16 skeins of Kureyon!

I'm too much of a sucker for buy 2 get 1 free specials - but I shopped around and they were ludicrously low prices - including shipping and handling, it worked out to about 6.40€/skein for the Silk Garden and 6.50€/skein for the Kureyon! S&H to FINLAND! Yay.

I think I'll make my first Clapotis with the Silk Garden and a Sunrise Circle Jacket with the Kureyon. Yeeees.

Yarn Stores in Helsinki

MENITA Kamppi, Korkeavuorenkatu 20
The best yarn store in Helsinki. The staff are very knowledgable and nice, great yarn selection with a lot of brands you won't find other places in Helsinki (Rowan, Schoeller & Stahl, full complement of Limbo and Regia), and of course a truckload of Novita. The needle selection is the biggest you'll find in Finland with more Addis than you can shake a stick at.
If they like you they'll give you a discount coupon to use next time you purchase something there (as if you needed an incentive!)

FIINA NEULE Kamppi, Fredrkinkatu 42
Good location in the centre of Helsinki (wander out of the Kamppi center and you're almost there), these guys seem to like novelty yarns a lot. It appears to be a Helsinki branch of a store in Turku. A bit of everything, couple Addis here, some Regia balls there, but frankly Menita kicks its ass. The owner seems a bit moody as well.

At first glance, this kiosk on the second floor of Hakaniemi Hall seems to carry nothing but ONLine yarns, but if you look in the nooks and crannies there's some other german artisnal imports in there too. The owner is very helpful and the self striping sock yarn collection is magnificent.

Good web presence, the store on Hämeentie 26 opened up less than a year ago. Prices slightly higher than Menita (for example, 50 g of SMART yarn is 5 EUR on sale at Priima, 4.50 EUR regular price at Menita. Very convenient location, a short walk from Hakaniemi or hop off the 6 or 7 tram in front.

Interesting yarns you wouldn't find in other places, such as mop yarn and more roving than you can shake a stick at. Not too much variety, and cost savings fluctuate.

CITYMARKET multiple locations
Citymarket has the worst selection of the hypermarkets, but can mark the prices down lowest. Novita only.

PRISMA multiple locations
Prisma also carries only Novita, but has a slightly better selection and marks it all down more readily.

ANTTILA multiple locations
Also Novita-centric. I wouldn't buy string from this joint unless if was marked down on sale.

TARJOUSTALO multiple locations
Takes the stuff that Anttila, Citymarket, and Prisma couldn't sell, and sells it... for the same price! You won't find significant savings if you look here. In general, Tarjoustalo is a pretty nasty place. It's not like you get any actual cost savings from the store.
